VET Initiative Award

In case you missed it !!

Whitebridge High School has won a very prestigious award at the Public Education Foundation NSW Minister’s and Secretary’s awards for Excellence. The school has been recognised with a Secretary’s Award for an Outstanding School Initiative. Our school’s VET student pathways for the future program is a creative future focussed curriculum model that supports all students to achieve success and be recognised with dual credentials. Our school offers 11 different industry credentialled frameworks on site enabling students to develop the necessary skills to transition into pathways of employment in industry and maximising their success in further study at TAFE or University through an ATAR pathway as well as a range of entry options and spotlight initiatives. Our school prides itself on being an inclusive future focussed educational community and we are proud to accept this award as we continue to lead the way in a dynamically changing world.

Our school’s success was also mentioned this week in Parliament with Ms Jodie Harrison extending her congratulations through her community recognition statement.

Ms JODIE HARRISON (CharlestownMinister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault)—It was my pleasure to the attend the 2023 NSW Minister's and Secretary's Awards for Excellence on 5 September, celebrating the achievements of outstanding schools, students, staff and teachers from across the state. It was especially pleasing to see Whitebridge High School receive a Secretary's Award for an Outstanding School Initiative, which is presented to NSW public schools that demonstrate their commitment to building a sustainable learning environment with the development and use of a specific program. Whitebridge was recognised by the VET Student Pathways for the Future program, which has been a game changer for students at the school. With an innovative curriculum model that increases student engagement through a skills focus and direct industry credentialling, the program actively engages young people, employers and the broader community. From high achievers to those requiring additional support, the program ensures students are on track for a successful future. My thanks to Whitebridge High School principal Nadene Harvey and her team on introducing and running this fantastic program, and my congratulations on this well-deserved recognition!

Thankyou to our very hardworking teachers, students and our community partners for their work in delivery of this initiative and for supporting our school to create such wonderful opportunities for learning. With our Year 11 accelerated VET learners about to complete their HSC exams, we wish them all the very best.
