Religion and ethics

NSW public schools offer special religious education and special education in ethics, delivered by approved providers wherever available.

During enrolment, you can choose a special religious education option for your child from the school’s available approved providers. You can withdraw your child from special religious education by selecting alternative meaningful activities, or special education in ethics if it’s available.

You can update your preference by writing to the school or through the online form available at participating schools.

Visit the department’s website for more information about religion and ethics.

At Whitebridge High School SRE is scheduled to take place for students who have elected to participate during a 1 hour period fortnightly.

The Department of Education website provides a list of all authorised SRE providers.

NSW Department of Education Religion and Ethics Information

There is one SRE group run under the auspices of the Charlestown Christian Education Association. Parents can change their preference for SRE enrolment at any time, notification of changes should be given to the Principal in writing.

Information on the CCEA SRE group can be found at the following link https://nswactbaptists.org.au/

The curriculum being followed in the program can be found at: https://www.ccea.org.au/curriculum

Currently there is no provision for Special Ethics Education (SEE) in secondary schools.

During the time that SRE classes are being held, SRE students will be located in a separate space whilst students not attending will remain in their classrooms and will participate in alternate meaningful activities that could include reading, private study or completing homework.
